Who they were
At Hierapolis in Phrygia, in present-day Turkey, Saint Abercius, bishop, who, a disciple of Christ the good shepherd, was, so it is told, led by faith as a pilgrim through many regions, nourishing himself on mystical food.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 October as a bishop of Hierapolis who, it is told, travelled as a pilgrim of the faith through many regions.
