Who they were
At Edessa in ancient Syria, Saint Abibus, deacon and martyr, who, under the emperor Licinius, concluded his glorious struggle when condemned to the stake by the governor Lysanias.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 2 September as a deacon of Edessa burned at the stake under the emperor Licinius.
