Who they were
Born at Padim da Graça near Braga, Correia spent about sixty years as parish priest of S. Mamede de Este and became known as the Apostle of the Eucharist and the Portuguese Curé d'Ars, dying with a reputation for holiness.

Why that counted as sanctity
At their plenary assembly in April 1997 the Portuguese bishops asked the Holy See for authorisation to begin his process of beatification and canonisation; the nihil obstat is dated 25 June 1997.
