Abraham the Patriarch

Who they were

The commemoration of Saint Abraham, patriarch and father of all believers, who, called by God, went out from his land, Ur of the Chaldees, and set out for the land God promised to him and to his descendants. He then showed the whole of his faith in God when, hoping against all hope, he did not refuse to offer in sacrifice his only-begotten son Isaac, whom the Lord had given him when he was already old and by a barren wife.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 9 October as the patriarch and father of all believers, who left Ur of the Chaldees at God's call and did not refuse to offer his son Isaac.
