Who they were
Abundius was born at Thessalonica early in the fifth century and became the fourth Bishop of Como.
He attended the Council of Constantinople in 450 and took an active part against the Eutychian heresy at Chalcedon in 451 as the representative of Pope St Leo the Great, and in 452 the Council of Milan. The Te Deum is occasionally attributed to him.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A bishop who defended the Church's faith in Christ at the great councils of his age.
