Acacius of Amida

Who they were

At Diyarbakir in Mesopotamia, today in Turkey, Saint Acacius, bishop, who, in order to ransom some Persians who had been taken prisoner and subjected to cruel tortures, persuaded his clergy and went so far as to sell to the Romans even the sacred vessels of the Church.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 9 April as a bishop who sold even the Church's sacred vessels to ransom tortured Persian prisoners.
