Adelaide, Abbess of Vilich
Abbess of Vilich and Christian saint (c.970-c.1015)

Who they were
Adelaide, daughter of Megingoz, Count of Guelders, entered the convent of St Ursula in Cologne very young. When her parents founded the convent of Vilich, opposite Bonn, she became its abbess and introduced the stricter Rule of St Benedict.
Famed for holiness and miracles, at the wish of St Heribert of Cologne and the command of Emperor Otto III she also became abbess of St Mary's in Cologne. She died there on 5 February 1015 and was buried at Vilich.

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
