Who they were
Adeodatus I (Deusdedit) was consecrated pope in 615 and died in 618. He was distinguished for charity and zeal, and supported the clergy impoverished by the political troubles of the time.
When Rome was struck by a violent earthquake and then by leprosy, he set a heroic example in relieving the suffering. He is said to have been the first pope to seal documents with lead.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
