Who they were
Matteo di Termini was born at Termini in Sicily in the first half of the thirteenth century to a noble family of Catalan origin, and studied at Bologna, winning high honours in civil and canon law. He held high office in the magistracy and became a counsellor of King Manfred of Sicily.
Entering religious life as an Augustinian, he took the name Agostino, to which 'Novello' was later added for his learning and virtue.
The miracles
He is honoured as Blessed by long-standing veneration confirmed by the Church; the Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe a formal cause.
Why that counted as sanctity
A great jurist who left worldly honours for the religious life.
