Albert Joubert

Who they were

Albert Joubert was born at Saint Louis de Mrumbi-Moba, then in the Belgian Congo, on 18 October 1908, to a French father of the papal guard and a Congolese mother, and was a Congolese citizen. Ordained priest at Baudouinville on 6 October 1935 for the secular clergy of the apostolic vicariate of Upper Congo, he served in several parishes and dioceses before being killed at Fizi on 28 November 1964; Pope Francis beatified him on 18 August 2024.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The four companions died on the same day at the hands of the same killer, and the Christian people at once understood their deaths as martyrdom.
