Who they were
Albert, born in the diocese of Parma, became a canon regular at Mortara, then Bishop of Bobbio and about 1184 Bishop of Vercelli. Pope and emperor both asked him to arbitrate their quarrel.
Implored by the Christians of Palestine, he accepted the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, with its prospect of persecution and martyrdom, and Innocent III made him papal legate. His holiness won the veneration even of Muslims. He wrote the rule of the Carmelites. He died on 14 September 1215.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A peacemaking bishop who accepted a dangerous post in Jerusalem and gave the Carmelites their rule.
