Who they were
Albertina Berkenbrock was born on 11 April 1919 at São Luís, Imaruí, in Santa Catarina, Brazil. She was baptised on 25 May 1919, confirmed in 1925 and made her First Communion in August 1928.
At twelve she resisted an attempt at sexual violence and was killed for it with a blade.
The miracles
As a martyr she was beatified without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
A twelve-year-old girl who chose death rather than consent to sin, honoured by the Church as a virgin and martyr.
