Who they were
Alchmund became Bishop of Hexham in 767 and led a life of remarkable piety until his death on 7 September 781. He was buried beside St Acca, and was much venerated at Hexham.
After the Danish ravages his tomb was forgotten, until, it is said, he appeared in a vision asking that his body be translated.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
