Alexis Falconieri

Who they were

Alexis Falconieri was born in Florence in 1200, son of a merchant prince of the Republic. He grew up in deep humility, joined the Laudesi confraternity of Our Lady and there met six companions; with them he received an apparition of the Mother of God on 15 August 1233.

The seven founded the Servants of Mary. Alexis left everything and withdrew with them to Monte Senario, where, out of humility, he went begging for his brothers. He died there on 17 February 1310, aged about 110.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

One of the Seven Holy Founders of the Servites, humble to the end.
