Who they were
Élisabeth Eppinger was born at Niederbronn-les-Bains, in Alsace, on 9 September 1814. She founded the Sisters of the Most Holy Saviour, taking the name Alphonse-Marie, and her sisters went into the homes of the poorest and the sick without distinction of religion or class; they soon had fourteen more houses and nursed in the Crimean War. She died at Niederbronn on 31 July 1867.
The miracles
A woman — Mulhouse, France — May 1955
Early in 1955 a woman began to suffer constant severe abdominal pain and lost a great deal of weight. She was diagnosed with an intestinal blockage and underwent emergency surgery, but came close to death. The superior of the clinic began a novena to Mother Alphonse-Marie with her sisters, and the patient joined them, keeping a holy card with a small relic under her pillow. The next day she began to improve suddenly and clearly, and later tests confirmed she was completely healed.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of a woman was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 26 January 2018, opening the way to beatification.
