Alonso de Orozco

Who they were
Alonso de Orozco was born on 17 October 1500 at Oropesa near Toledo, where his father governed the fortress, and sang as a choirboy in Toledo cathedral. He joined the Hermits of St Augustine and was ordained in 1527.
In 1549 he set out as a missionary to Mexico hoping for martyrdom, but illness stopped him in the Canaries. In 1554 Charles V named him royal preacher, and he followed the court to Madrid, where he lived austere and humble in the Augustinian convent of San Felipe el Real until his death on 19 September 1591.
