Who they were
Born at Einsiedeln in Switzerland, he was coadjutor bishop of Quilon from 1900 and governed the diocese from 1905 to 1931.

Why that counted as sanctity
The Discalced Carmelite general curia reports that his diocesan beatification process was begun on 17 August 2017, the 75th anniversary of his death, with the formal declaration of the Archbishop of Trivandrum, at a celebration organised by the Carmelite Province of Malabar. The Hagiography Circle record dates the opening of the diocesan inquiry itself to 12 October 2018.
