Alphons Ariëns
Dutch priest and pioneer of Catholic social action and the temperance movement
Who they were
Ordained in 1882 and a doctor of theology from Rome, he served as chaplain at Enschede and then as parish priest at Steenderen and Maarssen, and was one of the pioneers of Dutch Catholic social action, organising workers and campaigning against alcohol abuse.
