Álvaro Gonzáles López

Who they were

Álvaro Gonzáles López was born at Noceda del Bierzo in Spain on 27 April 1915 and entered the monastery of Santa María de Viaceli, but the civil war forced him to go home; on his return he made his first profession on 1 January 1934.

He was beatified on 3 October 2015 by Pope Francis, among the Spanish Cistercian martyrs of the Strict Observance.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

The Dicastery for the Causes of Saints names him among the Spanish Trappist martyrs beatified on 3 October 2015.
