Who they were
At Lausanne in present-day Switzerland, Saint Amadeus, bishop, who, a monk of Clairvaux, was made abbot of the monastery of Hautecombe and, having later become bishop, carefully instructed the young, formed a devout and pure clergy, and in his preaching celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 27 August as a Cistercian abbot of Hautecombe who became bishop of Lausanne.
