Who they were
Amalarius of Metz, a disciple of Alcuin, was probably Bishop of Trier and served as envoy to Constantinople and Rome.
He wrote widely on the liturgy and governed the Diocese of Lyons for a time. Some of his opinions were censured at a synod in 838. He died about 850.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
