Who they were
Amalberga was a virgin much revered in Belgium. It is said that Charles, later Charlemagne, sought her in marriage and, repeatedly refused, tried to carry her off by force, breaking her arm, but could not move her from the altar where she lay prostrate.
Many miracles are attributed to her. She died on 10 July, in her thirty-first year.

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A young woman who held to her consecration to Christ even against a king.
