Amalio Zariquiegui Mendoza
Brother of the Christian Schools, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
A Brother of the Christian Schools, in religion Amalio and in the world Justo, born on 6 August 1886 at Salinas de Oro in the diocese of Pamplona and professed in 1915; he gave himself to teaching children in a spirit of service. He was one of seven Brothers of the Christian Schools arrested at Almería on 22 July 1936; three of them, including him, were shot at Tabernas on the night between 30 and 31 August 1936 and their bodies thrown into a well. He was beatified on 10 October 1993 by John Paul II, among Diego Ventaja Milán and his companions, martyrs of Almería.
