Ambrose Barlow
English Benedictine martyr

Who they were
Ambrose Barlow, fourth son of Sir Alexander Barlow of Barlow Hall near Manchester, was baptised at Didsbury on 30 November 1585. Educated at St Gregory's, Douai, and Valladolid, he was professed a Benedictine in 1616 and ordained in 1617.
Sent to England, he worked with apostolic zeal in south Lancashire, living chiefly at Wardley Hall and Morley's Hall near Manchester. He was martyred on 10 September 1641; his skull is still kept at Wardley Hall.
