Amphilochius of Iconium

Who they were
Amphilochius, of a distinguished Cappadocian Christian family, was born about 339, probably a cousin of St Gregory of Nazianzus. He studied law and practised at Constantinople, then retired to a religious life near Gregory, and came under the influence of St Basil, perhaps living in Basil's 'City of the Poor' at Caesarea.
Early in 374, probably through Basil, he became Bishop of Iconium, and continued to help Basil in Cappadocia. He died some time after 394.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A lawyer who left the courts for God and became a bishop in the circle of Basil and Gregory.
