Who they were
Ana Monteagudo Ponce de León was born at Arequipa, Peru, in 1602, to a Spanish father and a mother from Arequipa. At three she was entrusted to the Dominican monastery of St Catherine of Siena to be educated, and she later became a Dominican nun there and its prioress.
With the gift of counsel and of prophecy she worked generously for the good of the whole city. She died on 10 January 1686, aged 84.
