Who they were
Ana Josefa Pérez Florido was born on 7 December 1845 in the valley of Abdalajís near Málaga, the last of nineteen children. Orphaned young, she took the Virgin as her mother.
As Mother Petra of St Joseph she founded the Congregation of the Mothers of the Abandoned and of St Joseph of the Mountain, and cared for old people left alone.

She made herself mother to the abandoned elderly, accepting through many difficulties the work God gave her.
