Who they were
Anastasius was born at Alexandria in the first half of the seventh century and became abbot of the monastery of Mount Sinai.
So active an opponent of the Monophysites and Monothelites was he that he was called 'the new Moses'. His chief work, the 'Guide' (Hodegos), defends the Catholic faith and was a popular manual among medieval Greeks. He died after 700.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
