André Vallée

Who they were

André Vallée was a layman born at Mortagne on 9 November 1919, like his younger brother Roger, and baptised two days later; not drawn to study, he became a printing worker in 1934 and joined the Young Christian Workers. Mobilised in June 1940 and taken prisoner at Poitiers, he returned to Mortagne with the Youth Works, was recruited for the compulsory labour service in November 1942 and followed his brother to Gotha, where the two were arrested together; he died at Leitmeritz on 31 January 1945, aged 25. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
