Slavic saint from the Kingdom of Hungary
Feast: 13 July (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Nitra on the river of the same name near the Carpathian mountains, in present-day Slovakia, Saints Zoerard, or Andrew, and Benedict, hermits, who, having come from Poland to Hungary at the request of the holy king Stephen, led a life of extreme austerity in a hermitage on Mount Zobor.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 17 July as a hermit who came from Poland to Hungary at King Stephen's request and lived in great austerity on Mount Zobor.
