Angilbert

Who they were
Angilbert was brought up at the court of Charlemagne, where he was the pupil and friend of Alcuin and was known as 'Homer' in the court academy. In 782 he went to Italy with the young King Pepin as head of his palace, and several times served as envoy to the pope.
In 790 he was named abbot of Centula, later Saint-Riquier, in Picardy. He died on 18 February 814.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A courtier-poet who ended his life as an abbot.
