Who they were
Anna Maria Rubatto was born at Carmagnola, near Turin, on 14 February 1844. In 1885 she became superior of a new institute of Capuchin sisters at Loano, taking the name Maria Francesca of Jesus; today they are the Capuchin Sisters of Mother Rubatto.
She took the sisters to Uruguay and Argentina, and died in Montevideo on 6 August 1904. She is Uruguay's first saint.

A young man was in a coma in hospital with a severe head injury from a car accident. His family sought Mother Rubatto's intercession, and he made an unexpected recovery that doctors could not explain.
Why that counted as sanctity
Beatification followed on 10 October 1993 by John Paul II. The case of a young man was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 21 February 2020, opening the way to canonisation. Canonisation followed on 15 May 2022 by Francis.
