Anne Catherine Emmerich
German Augustinian canoness, mystic, Marian visionary, ecstatic and stigmatist (1774-1824)

Who they were
Anne Catherine Emmerich was born on 8 September 1774 at Flamschen near Coesfeld, Westphalia, to very poor, devout peasants. At twelve she was sent to work for a farmer and later was a seamstress; she gave her savings for entering a convent to a poor organist's family and served them for years.
In 1802 she entered the Augustinian convent at Agnetenberg, Dülmen, content to be the least in the house. She was a stigmatic and ecstatic. She died at Dülmen on 9 February 1824.
The miracles
He is honoured as Blessed by long-standing veneration; the Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe a formal cause.
Why that counted as sanctity
A poor, sick Augustinian nun who accepted suffering in union with Christ.
