Who they were
Marie Rivier was born in the Ardèche, France, on 19 December 1768. In 1796, in the middle of the French Revolution, she founded the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary to teach children and pass on the faith.
She founded 149 schools in her lifetime. She died on 3 February 1838.
The miracles
Angel Marie Vier Digamo, a newborn girl — Philippines — 2015
A newborn baby had hydrops fetalis, a life-threatening build-up of fluid around the lungs and heart. She was healed through Blessed Marie Rivier's intercession.
Why that counted as sanctity
Beatification followed on 23 May 1982 by John Paul II. The case of Angel Marie Vier Digamo, a newborn girl was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 13 December 2021, opening the way to canonisation. Canonisation followed on 15 May 2022 by Francis.
