Who they were

Anton Martin Slomšek was born on 26 November 1800 in the village of Slom, in the diocese of Lavant-Maribor. After studying theology he was ordained in 1824 and spent 22 years in zealous pastoral work.

As Bishop of Maribor he cared greatly for the Christian life of families and the formation of the clergy, and worked with all his strength for the unity of the Church. He died at Maribor on 24 September 1862.
