Who they were
Anthony Ishida, a priest of the Society of Jesus, was one of the five companions of Blessed Bartholomew Gutiérrez, first plunged into boiling sulphur springs and then burned at the stake at Nagasaki, out of hatred for the Christian faith. He died on 3 September 1632.
He is one of the 205 martyrs killed in Japan for the Catholic faith between 1617 and 1632 whom Pius IX declared Blessed on 7 July 1867.
