Antonio Girón González

Who they were

Antonio Girón González was born at Ponferrada in the province of León on 11 December 1871, professed his vows in 1889 and was ordained priest in 1894. Gifted in mind and deep in interior life, he worked at teaching and formation and was a provincial consultor; he took refuge in a private house, then in a convent and finally in a hospice, where he was captured and killed on 30 August 1936, and Pope Francis beatified him on 22 October 2022.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

He showed his devotion to the Virgin to the end by constantly praying the Rosary.
