Who they were
Angelo Nicola Lucci was born at Agnone in Molise on 2 August 1682. He joined the Conventual Franciscans, taking the name Antonio, was ordained in 1705 and became a doctor of theology in 1709.
A friar of contemplative prayer and a teacher of theology, he was soon given important offices, and as Bishop of Bovino he shone for his learning and was so generous to the poor that he neglected his own needs.
