Antonio Rosmini
Italian philosopher and priest (1797–1855)

Who they were
Antonio Rosmini Serbati was born at Rovereto on 24 March 1797, studied law and theology at Padua and was ordained in 1821. Encouraged by Pope Pius VIII to lead people to religion through reason, he gave his life to philosophy, politics, spirituality and education.
He founded the Institute of Charity at Domodossola and began the Sisters of Providence. His best-known work, The Five Wounds of the Holy Church, anticipated themes of the Second Vatican Council, and John Paul II named him in Fides et ratio among thinkers in whom philosophy and the Word of God fruitfully meet.
