Anzelm Gądek

Who they were

Maciej Józef Gądek was born at Marszowice, in the parish of Niegowić, Poland, on 24 February 1884. He took the Carmelite habit at Czerna in 1901 as Brother Anzelm of Saint Andrew Corsini, made his profession in 1902 and was ordained priest in Rome on 25 July 1907.

He served as prior at Wadowice, provincial of the Polish Discalced Carmelites and a general councillor of the order. In 1921, with the Servant of God Mother Teresa of Saint Joseph, he founded the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of the Child Jesus. He died with a reputation for holiness on 15 October 1969 and rests in the Discalced Carmelite church in Łódź, where the diocesan inquiry into his life was held from 2002 to 2008.
