Who they were
At Altenburg in Flanders, now in Germany, the passing of Saint Arnold, bishop of Soissons, who from a soldier became a monk and, later elected bishop, worked for peace and concord, finally dying in the monastery he himself had founded.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 14 August as a soldier turned monk who became bishop of Soissons and worked for peace.
