Asterius of Caesarea

Who they were

At Caesarea in Palestine, Saints Marinus, a soldier, and Asterius, a senator, martyrs under the Emperor Gallienus: the first, denounced as a Christian by a hostile fellow soldier, professed his faith in a clear voice before the judge and received the crown of martyrdom by beheading; tradition says that Asterius, having spread his own garment on the ground, gathered up the martyr's body and at once himself received the same honour he had paid to the martyr.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 March as a senator at Caesarea in Palestine who, tradition says, was martyred after gathering up the body of the martyr Marinus.
