Who they were
Audoin (Ouen) was born near Soissons about 609 and became chancellor to King Dagobert I, alongside his friend St Eligius. After Dagobert's death both left the court; Ouen founded the Abbey of Rebais in 634 and was ordained priest.
Elected Archbishop of Rouen, he was consecrated on 21 May 640. He founded many monasteries, worked to end paganism, restored peace between Neustria and Austrasia, and wrote the life of St Eligius. He died at Clichy on 24 August 683.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A royal chancellor who became a zealous archbishop and peacemaker.
