Baptista Mantuanus
Italian poet, carmelite and Roman Catholic blessed (1448-1516)

Who they were
Baptista Spagnoli was born at Mantua on 17 April 1447. After a wayward youth he entered the Carmelite convent of the Mantuan Reform at Ferrara, was ordained, and lectured in philosophy and divinity.
He was six times vicar general of his congregation and in 1513 became general of the whole Carmelite order. He was one of the most prolific poets of the Renaissance. He died at Mantua on 22 March 1516.
