Who they were
Giuseppe Dalmazzo was born in Cuneo, Italy, on 23 April 1673 and entered the Friars Minor Observant at the friary of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Cuneo, taking the name Benigno. He completed his novitiate and theology at Ivrea and was ordained priest in 1697.
He worked as a formator in several friaries and as a preacher, and was known as a healer, a peacemaker and a wise spiritual guide. Back at the Cuneo friary he gave himself to the sick in the epidemic of 1742, and died during the siege of 1744, on 19 September. His cause, begun in the eighteenth century, reached the decree recognising his heroic virtues, with the title Venerable, in 1881.
