Who they were
Filippo Latino was born at Corleone on 6 February 1605. His home was called 'a house of saints': his father, a shoemaker, brought the destitute home to wash, clothe and feed them.
As Brother Bernard, a Capuchin, his whole life reached towards God through constant self-denial, prayer and penance. The old picture of him as a street brawler, the Dicastery notes, is a distortion.
