Who they were
Bernardo Francisco de Hoyos was born on 21 August 1711 at Torrelobatón near Valladolid into a family of local nobility. Taught by the Jesuits, he pressed his family and the Provincial to let him enter the novitiate, which he did on 11 July 1726, not yet fifteen.
Ordained on 2 January 1735, he is known above all for his ardent devotion to the Sacred Heart and his constant promotion of it until his early death that year.
