Who they were

Near the monastery of Saint-Bertin in the territory of Thérouanne in France, the passing of Blessed Bernard, penitent, who, wishing to expiate the sins of his youth by austere penance, freely chose exile and, barefoot, dressed in woollen garments and content with sparse food, was a tireless pilgrim to the holy places.
