Who they were
Bernardino Realino was born at Carpi on 1 December 1530. A lively student of medicine, letters, philosophy and law, he graduated in law at Bologna in 1556 and entered the service of the viceroy of Sicily in Naples.
In 1564 he decided to join the Society of Jesus. Rejecting worldly honours, he gave himself to the care of prisoners and the sick and to preaching and confession, and shone for charity and goodness.
