Bienvenido Mata Ubierna

Who they were

Bienvenido Mata Ubierna was born at Celadilla Sotobrin in Spain on 24 May 1908 and entered the monastery of Santa María de Viaceli; he had only just begun his novitiate when he was killed.

He was beatified on 3 October 2015 by Pope Francis, among the Spanish Cistercian martyrs of the Strict Observance.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

The Dicastery for the Causes of Saints names him among the Spanish Trappist martyrs beatified on 3 October 2015.
